Question: I have several morgan dollars ranging from 1900 to 1922. I have looked for the mint mark, under the eagle and above the ’D’, but cannot see a mint mark there. Where do I look now?

My Answer: If you don’t see a mint mark on a Morgan Silver Dollar, it just means that it was minted at the United States Mint in Philadelphia.
Since the Philadelphia Mint was the first mint established in the United States, and the only one for a long time, no mint marks were necessary
since everyone knew that all United States coins were coming from the Philadelphia Mint.
Later, when other mints were established, they each used a different mint mark to distinguish which mint made each coin. Coins from Philadelphia, however, still did not bear mint marks. The first ’P’ mint mark did not appear on United States coins until 1942.
To read more about mint marks on United States coins, and to learn when a ’P’ mint mark was actually used on coins from the Philadelphia Mint, go to The Historical Use of Mint Marks and scroll down the page a little ways.
I should also mention that this not only applies to Morgan Silver Dollars, but to all United States coins. If there is not a mint mark on the coin, you can assume that it was minted at the Philadelphia Mint.
Keep in mind, however, that there were a few years when mint marks were not used on any United States coins.
In an attempt to keep collectors from knowing which coins were made at the branch mints in smaller numbers (limited strikes), the Coinage Act of 1965 approved the dropping of mint marks from all coins.
It was believed this would put a stop to coin shortages caused by collectors hoarding limited strikes, so United States coins dated 1965 through 1967 do not have mint marks and it is impossible to tell which mint they came from.

Mintage: 350,000
1889 Morgan silver dollar value ranges from $24.11 to $28.04 for most found today. However there are some worth considerably more. View the image to the right, its ’uncirculated’ condition stands out as far better than most surviving 1889 silver dollars. Absence of wear, bright colorful toned luster and lack of contact marks sets this coin apart. Additionally, according to estimates, only 100,000 to 25,000 of these dollar coins avoiding getting melted down for silver. Most of the few remaining coins got heavily circulated, and many of the existing examples have damage. Any examples of 1889 CC Morgan silver dollars are scarce, but typical examples have grades of VF or worse.

The 1889-CC Morgan dollar is not only far and away the rarest Carson City silver dollar, but also a key date for the entire Morgan dollar series.
The Carson City Mint was shut down in November 1885, and not reopened until October 1889. As there had been no local supply of silver dollars in the intervening four years, most of the mintage of 1889-CC Morgan dollars immediately began entering circulation. 1889 Morgan Silver Dollar Ebay
After the Carson City Mint ceased coining operations for good in 1893, the coins stored in its vaults were transferred to the San Francisco Mint and the Treasury Department vaults in Washington, DC
It is presumed that a large portion of this mintage ended up getting melted down under the 1918 Pittman Act. In contrast to the flood of previously rare 1881-CC and 1885-CC Morgan dollars released in the GSA hoard, only a single 1889-CC was found there. The Value of an 1889-CC Morgan Dollar1889 Morgan Silver Dollar Value
The 1889-CC is the rarest of all Carson City Morgan dollars, with the prices to prove it. Unlike most other Carson City Morgan mintages, where the vast majority spent their existence in government vaults, most of the 1889-CC mintage went into circulation. The combination of small mintage, heavy circulation, and being melted down in 1918, means that Mint State 1889-CC Morgan dollars start in the five figures.
This also fuels high prices for circulated 1889-CC Morgans. Moderately worn examples sell for more than $1,000. Even these circulated coins are scarce, due to the small mintage. Download soccabet mobile app android.
The average 1889-CC Morgan dollar will have a full strike, but disappointing luster. However, the rarity of the coin means that the luster has little effect on the price. The same goes for uncirculated versions, which are usually bagmarked.
BEWARE OF COUNTERFEITS!
Because the 1889-CC Morgan dollar is a rare key date, fakes abound. There are probably more counterfeit 1889-CCs on the market than the real thing. Unless you are a professional expert in spotting counterfeits, it is strongly urged that you buy an authenticated, encapsulated sample. Even then, you should check the serial number with the photographs of the actual coin on the appropriate third-party coin grading service website.1889 Morgan Silver Dollar1889-CC Morgan Dollar Price GuideCirculated GradesVery Fine 25Extremely Fine 45About Uncirculated 55$1,230$3,880$7,880Uncirculated (Mint State) GradesMint State 61Mint State 63Mint State 65Auction Record (MS68)$22,300$34,600$288,000$881,250
